Drawing Area with Marble TV Wall and Velvet Sofas

These are grey velvet sofas with a thin rose-gold trim on the frame and legs. Velvet was chosen because it reads soft in a large open room and takes the light differently as you move past it. We used a curved settee with two smaller bench settees rather than one heavy three-seater, so the seating can wrap the tables. The catch with velvet is it shows crushing, so it needs a brush along the pile.

That is a panelled feature wall, grooved into tall sections and lit from a cove above. The panels give a plain wall some depth without any colour or pattern, which keeps the busy marble on the TV wall as the main event. The cove throws a soft wash down the grooves at night. It is a calm backdrop that lets the grey sofas stand in front of it.

It works in layers. Recessed spotlights give the flat general light, a linear LED and cove add a warm line along the ceiling, and black track spotlights aim at the panelled feature wall for the evening. A ceiling fan hangs in the middle for air, since a closed room this size still needs it. Running only the cove and track lights makes the room feel lower and softer after dark.

There are two. The lower round coffee table has a glossy dark wood drum with a copper band at the base, and a taller marble-top side table on a brass frame nests beside it. Nesting two small tables instead of one big slab lets you pull the top one out for a guest and push it back after. Between them they serve both sofas without blocking the floor.

It does, with a couple of trade-offs to know. Keeping the drawing area open to the dining table makes a flat feel larger and lets one person cook or set the table while others sit. Sound and cooking smells travel further, so a chimney in the kitchen earns its keep. The single grey floor tile runs through both zones to tie them together. For a young family the open floor is easier to watch across.

The stone and the fitting drive it, not the TV mount. A large marble TV feature wall means big slabs, careful vein matching across the joins and a strong backing to hang a screen on, and that work is where the cost sits. The floating console adds carpentry and a wiring point. Slab size and whether you use real marble or a marble-look surface decide the figure, so compare both before you order.

Both reward a light routine. Velvet needs a soft brush along the pile to lift crushing and a quick vacuum to keep dust from settling into the nap, and spills want blotting rather than rubbing. The marble TV feature wall wipes with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner, never anything acidic, since lemon or vinegar will dull the polish. A sealed marble surface shrugs off marks far better than a raw one.
