There is a groove cut into the top edge of each shutter, so you hook your fingers in and pull. It keeps the front looking like one flat surface and there is nothing sticking out to catch your clothes when you walk past.

Less than people expect. It works here because everything around it stays quiet, with grey cabinets, a cream counter and a beige floor. If you ever tire of the colour, the backsplash is the one part you can change without touching the cabinetry.

Two layers. A warm strip tucked under the wall cabinets lights the counter directly so you are not chopping in your own shadow, and a black track on the ceiling carries spotlights for overall light.

Quite a lot for its size. There is a full run of deep drawers and cabinets below the counter, a matching row of wall cabinets above, and a tall unit at the end for taller items or a pantry.

It is a black-framed partition in ribbed glass that closes off the utility side of the kitchen. The ribbing lets light through but blurs what is behind it, so the working mess stays out of sight from the main kitchen.

Handleless shutters and a full wall of cabinets sit at the higher end of modular pricing, and the counter material moves the number a fair bit too. Send us the kitchen dimensions and we can work out a realistic figure.

Usually around four to six weeks from the day the design and materials are locked. The units are built off site and assembled in the kitchen, so the actual work inside your home is only a few days at the end.
