Parents Room with Green Channel Headboard

Green is the only strong colour here. It had to earn the room. The colour lands on the channel headboard and the bed base, then stops. A big round moon piece glows behind the bed, lit from behind so the wall keeps a soft ring. The panelling around it stays plain on purpose. Across the room a floating TV console hangs off a wood slat panel that repeats the same warm wood note found on the wardrobe handles and the door. The arched wardrobe run swallows a full wall of storage. The trade cost is a backlit panel needs a wired point behind it. Long green curtains close the window.

About Parents Room Interiors

Common questions from homeowners.

A large round moon piece is fixed on the panelled wall right above the bed, and it is lit from behind. After dark the wall holds a soft ring of light around the disc instead of a flat picture. The panelling on either side is left plain so nothing fights that glow. The olive headboard below picks up the vertical channel look, so the eye moves from bed to art in one line.

Green is the single accent in a mostly beige room, so it does the work of setting the mood. It sits on the channel headboard and the low bed base, then stops there. Keeping the strong colour on the bed alone means the walls, wardrobe and floor stay neutral and calm. If tastes change later, reupholstering one headboard is far cheaper than repainting or refacing a whole wall of storage.

The wardrobe runs the full length of one wall as a built-in unit, so it holds a lot without stealing floor space. Tall shutters carry arched moulding to match the headboard wall, and long gold handles run down their edge. Because it is floor-to-ceiling, the loft space above doubles as low-use storage for luggage or bedding you only reach a few times a year.

The TV is mounted on a wood slat panel that is framed by moulding and lit softly at the edges. Below it a floating white console with a drawer keeps remotes and cables out of sight, and a light underneath lifts it off the floor. The warm wood of the slats matches the wardrobe handles and the room door, so the timber tone is repeated rather than random.

A tall window brings in daylight along one side of the room. It is dressed in two layers, a sheer for daytime softness and heavier green curtains that run floor to ceiling for full block-out at night. The two-layer setup lets you keep the room bright but glare-free during the day, then close it right down for sleep. The green also ties the drapes back to the headboard.

The disc itself is not the pricey part. The extra cost is running a concealed power point behind the wall and wiring the LED strip before the finish goes on, which is why it must be planned early, not added later. Done at the panelling stage it is a modest line item. Retrofitting the same effect into a finished wall means cutting and repainting, so decide before the wall is closed up.

It can, with trimming. Swap the full wardrobe run for a shorter unit or a sliding-shutter version so the doors need no swing space. Keep one feature only, either the moon art or the slat TV panel, rather than both, so a small room does not feel busy. The neutral base and single green accent actually help here, since a light scheme keeps tight rooms feeling larger.

The channel headboard has grooves that trap dust, so a monthly vacuum with a brush head keeps it fresh, and a stain-guarded fabric handles the odd spill. The wood slat panel and wardrobe fronts only need a soft dry wipe along the grain. Green curtains are best dry-cleaned to hold their colour. None of it is heavy work, but the upholstery rewards a little regular care.
